‘Road’ Films

What is it with films that have ‘Road’ in the title? Something about that word alerts the viewer that something about that movie will be utterly heartbreaking.

  • Arlington Road
  • Munger Road
  • Revolutionary Road
  • Reservation Road
  • Road to Perdition
  • The Road (Viggo Mortensen in the adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy novel of the same title)
  • On the Road (upcoming adaptation of the Kerouacian classic)

Can you think of others? Road Trip doesn’t count.

About filmbouillabaisse

I love balance and equilibrium. I shrink from all views/methods extremist, obsessive, and militant. Except when it comes to cinema.

Based on your list, those are depressing.
However, there’s the entire series of Road movies starring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope mostly from the 1940’s. These are hilarious comedies that feel like early Muppet movies. If you like goofy, self-referential, surreal comedy, check these out. I love them, but I’m pretty silly myself.

  2. Ahhh yes! Good call on the Hope/Crosby films.

  3. It’s been a while since I updated (a five year gap until today) but a solid entry since then has been Mad Max: Fury Road.
